On May 23 2008, about 20 representatives have joined the visit to the Hong Kong Science Park organized by the Association. When arrived, the visiting group was shown a video about the historical development of the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park Company, the Park’s facilities & services, and the blue plan of future development. Members then walked to the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology building situated right outside the front gate of the Park. They had a tour inside the research laboratory of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine, which is located in the building. The laboratory has installed advance equipment for extraction, analysis, research and development in Chinese medicinal materials. The laboratory also has rich repositories in genuine and original medicinal plants, animals and minerals. Finally, the group visited Phase II of the Park, which is specifically planned for Bioinformatics. There are two new building to suit the installation of a variety of advanced equipment, which requires tailed architectural design. The advanced facilities are available for rental by tenants and external companies for research projects helping them to reduce capital expenditures. The spectacular structure of the Phase II is the gigantic “golden egg” auditorium, which looks hanging between two buildings.
