Seminar on Health Food Regulation and Market Development

The Hong Kong Health Food Association partnered with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to organize a seminar on the development of health food market in mainland China at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 6 January 2006. Mr. Ralph Chow, Director, Product Promotion, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Ms. Angela Lau, President, Hong Kong Health Food Association were on the stage to deliver welcome remarks respectively. The seminar started with the presentation of Dr. Lin Shuying, Food & Drug Administration of Guangdong Province. Dr. Lin explained in detail the new Health Food Registration Regulation implemented in July 2005. Information presented was detailed and comprehensive. Professor Du Guiyou, State Health Food Evaluation Expert, then presented the evaluation mechanism for health food registration and advised the audience to watch out for some common errors in preparing documentation. After coffee break, Mr. Zhu Kangnian, Secretary General, China Health Care Association, spoke about his expert experience in the trend of market development in China. His presentation provided some valuable statistical figures that are hard to obtain. Last but not least, Mr. Yuen Waidong, Deputy Manager, Guangzhou Medicines Company, Kin Man Pharmacy Chainstore, analyzed and compared the various distribution channels for health food products in China. The seminar was well attended by 170 audiences and ended with an enthusiastic question and answer session. This showed that local enterprises are keen to develop business in the health food market in China.
